Male Fertility

Male factor infertility

Male Factor Infertility is a common issue, affecting 40-50% of unexplained infertility cases. Unlike women, whose eggs are finite, men continually produce and renew sperm. This means that improvements in male fertility can be achieved relatively quickly. Factors such as sperm quality, hormone levels, and overall health play a crucial role in fertility. This is where acupuncture can be a valuable ally in your journey towards parenthood.

Acupuncture treatment can help balance hormones, reduce stress, and alleviate chronic pain, all of which impact male fertility. Understanding these challenges allows me to tailor treatments and offer support for the best possible outcomes.

Supporting male fertility

Research has shown that acupuncture can significantly enhance sperm quality, aid natural conception, and increase pregnancy rates when used alongside assisted conception methods.

Acupuncture achieves this by:

  • Balancing and optimising male hormone levels.
  • Reducing stress levels, improving sleep, and enhancing overall well-being.
  • Treating chronic pain and relaxing tight muscles, which can affect fertility.
  • Advising on key tests and assessments to identify potential issues.

For optimal results regular acupuncture treatment for 3-6 months is combined with blood and semen analysis. I offer individual and couples’ treatment options, depending on your preferences. A joint initial consultation is followed by a joint treatment session lasting 70-90 minutes. Regular acupuncture and monitoring supports increasing your chances of achieving your fertility goals.

Boosting Fertility Naturally

Making positive lifestyle changes can significantly improve male fertility and increase your chances of conception.

I work with male partners to support:

  • Dietary adjustments and the use of recognised supplements.
  • Reducing alcohol consumption and quitting smoking, both of which have been proven to boost male fertility.
  • Managing stress through relaxation techniques and exercise, enhances testosterone levels and sperm production.
  • Identifying and avoiding medications, over-the-counter drugs, and recreational substances that negatively impact sperm.

By making these lifestyle changes, you can actively contribute to improving your fertility naturally.

Tests and Investigations

Testing male partners during fertility treatment is essential to identify and address any factors that may hinder conception.

I can help guide you through the following tests:

  • Semen Analysis: To assess sperm quality and quantity.
  • Sperm DNA Fragmentation: Identifying anomalies in sperm quality.
  • Blood tests, including a Male Hormone panel and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA).
  • Gut Microbiome test: Identifying gut health issues that can affect sperm production.
  • Infection screening: Detecting unwanted infections in the male reproductive tract.

I also provide guidance on additional tests recommendations when needed, such as Genetic Testing and Testicular Biopsy and Mapping.
